High Tide - water level that has risen as a result of the moon's gravitational pull on the Earth. Which can cause flooding in our county, depending on the amount of rainfall we've experienced. High tides can sweep you off your feet if not watching when they roll in. If you are out exploring our beaches; watch for incoming tides and timing of them as you may become stranded.
Low Tide - tide going "out" The ebbing tide may generate powerful currents and rip tides. Avoid swimming or venturing into the water during these periods, as they can swiftly carry you away from shore.

Swim Parallel: If you feel confident and have the strength to swim, move parallel to the shoreline until you escape the pull of the riptide. Then, swim back to the shore at an angle away from the current.
